John honed his investment research and planning skills for almost 25 years before leaving the large brokerage houses behind. A desire to provide substantial and sound client services and to fully-develop his signature investment portfolio strategies led John to launch an independent financial services business in 2011. After 6 years in partnership, John opened the door of Brendel Financial to focus on his personal brand of client service which relies on an understanding of clients’ concerns, enthusiasms, long-term goals, and his interest in his clients. 

John earned his AAMS® with the College of Financial Planning in 2004 and has maintained close ties with the college as well as many colleagues throughout the investment industry. After graduating with a degree in Management & Marketing from the College of Business at St. Johns, John returned to his first passion, sailboats. Working for Ventura Yachts in New York, John found time to continue racing, eventually counting 7 National Championships (Shields Class) and a World Championship (Offshore Rule Class) among his successes, before moving on to his next professional interest: the financial services industry.

An active member of the Upper Valley community since 1991, John and his wife of 26 years, Megan, raised their two children and several dogs here. Parenting in Vermont and NH has meant many hours cheering and playing a supporting role for ski, baseball, and crew teams throughout the years. An avid skier himself, John gets out regularly with the whole family and tries to plan a surprise winter getaway each year.  

As a business owner and community member, John has supported local causes including WISE, the Prouty, Project Graduation, and Norwich Women’s Club as well as volunteered with the Norwich Lions Club, the Norwich Finance Committee, and chairing the Norwich Fair for 8 years. 

Now that Megan and John’s children are out of the house, John is finding time to return to the water, racing with the Sunapee Yacht Club and reliving adventures with his friends at Storm Trysail Sailing Club.
